Long Island's Gold Coast was made famous by plutocrats and philanthropists of the last century who built their great mansions there: Vanderbilt, Dupont, Guggenheim ... and Otto Hermann Kahn. By 1921, Kahn had out-built them all with a vast Ch?teau complete with an ornamental parterre on a man-made hill overlooking Cold Spring Harbour.
